The Angel Of Light – Frank Poland: Lyrics and Music – As a tribute to Ben Plain, my friend, my business partner and fellow deacon and prayer partner. The following song was formed from the residue of our many conversations about churches caught in Satan’s snare. Rest in Peace my friend.
.
But whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Romans 10:13
.
The Angel of Light
.
The Nature Of Deception:
.
Satan has no pitchfork he carries, no horns on his head,
No shadow of terror that mortals might dread.
His grandest deception is wearing all white,
Transformed, as Paul warned us, an angel of light.
.
He doesn’t come not to argue that evil is good,
But whispers that truth is no longer understood.
He makes God’s clear word seem redundant and small,
A thing we no longer require at all.
.
He poses as educated, cultured, and wise,
With tolerance streaming like grace from his eyes.
So safe and so reasonable, polished and mild—
A soothing protector we would trust with a child.
.
The Subtlety of Temptation:
.
He comes not with thunder to shatter the soul,
He offers improvement to make you feel whole.
He whispers that ancient morality dies,
That yesterday’s truths are outdated lies.
.
“Surrender a little,” he coaxingly pleads,
“A tiny compromise for modern-day needs.”
One small step today, then another tomorrow,
A quiet retreat into unmeasured sorrow.
.
Until you look back from the place where you stand,
And see you are lost in a desolate land—
Far off from the pathway where truth used to shine,
Traded away by Satan’s subtle design.
.
The Language of Deception:
.
In polite, gentle language his motives are dressed,
He asks that the Cross be quietly suppressed.
“It offends the outsider, it causes such pain,
Remove it,” he says, “and let harmony reign.”
.
The Church remains, and the music is sweet,
The programs continue, the crowds fill the seats.
Yet meaning drains out till the spirit is dead,
And empty traditions are carried out instead.
.
Without our obedience, faith is a phrase,
And love without truth is a dangerous maze.
Deception walks in through the front of the hall,
Well-spoken, elegant, and polite as it councils us all.
To make any voice that defends what is right,
Look backward and ignorant, lacking insight.
.
The Danger Of Lukewarm Faith:
.
Satan needs not a room full of villains or fools,
Just men who are passive and silent as tools.
He needs no great men to ruin the fold,
Just believers whose passion has settled to cold.
.
The church at Laodicea Jesus warned of the cost,
When lukewarmness enters, the power is lost.
To sit in a pew and to sing a nice song,
To listen to sermons and nod all along.
.
While hiding your faith out of fear or of shame,
Lest the world should mock or disown your good name.
Here silence is mistaken for prudence and grace,
And standing for truth is deemed out of place.
A comfortable, passive, inoffensive routine,
Where the power of God is nowhere to be seen.
.
A Call To Wakefulness:
.
So ask of your spirit in quiet and prayer,
“Am I among those who are caught in Satan’s snare?”
Oh, do not mistake, in this hour of night,
A creature of darkness for God’s Holy Light!
.
The Savior who called us from shadow and doom,
Still summons His people to rise from the gloom.|
Into His marvelous, unclouded loving rays,
To walk in His power the rest of our days.
.
Be watchful, be vigilant, keen to the search,
Let not Satan’s deception dilute your church!
.
