Habitual Rationalizers

Habitual Rationalizers (aka People That Make Excuses) – Frank Poland – Lyrics & Music – The motivating factor: With 62 years in the business world serving in lead and management roles, I think I have heard every excuse possible as to ‘Cause’, ‘Because’, ‘Why’ or ‘Why Not’. As a member of the Sonlife Quartet, we have a song about ‘Excuses’ relating to the attending / serving in the Church. Once I was informed by a person that they did not want to sing a specific song because “I have a spiritual catch”. That was the most unique / lame spiritual related excuse I have heard. This launched an extended thought process to assemble in lyrical music the ‘Excuse Environment’ perpetrated by habitual rationalizers.

    Habitual Rationalizers
    (People that make excuses)
.
In the shadows of the day, they weave their careful lies
With a repertoire of reasons, as complex as the skies
Tasks lie waiting yet to be done, simple and so near
But the excuse maker, oh, he wallows in his lies, it’s clear.
.
They’ve mastered the art of the intricate dodge,
Using words like a cloak, as a colorful mirage.
“I would if I could, but the stars aren’t aligned,
There’s always a reason, or circumstances combined.”
.
Excusers, dwell in comfort’s chains,
Masters of distraction, playing mental games.
Changing tales like the seasons, never take the blame,
In the hallways of excuses, all their alibis the same.
.

Procrastination their partner, side by side,
In a dance of avoidance, their laziness they can’t hide.
The simplest of tasks become mountains to scale,
With very little thought, they spin another tale.
.
“Oh, I meant to get started, but something got in the way,
The weather was bad, or I lost track of the day.”
With a sigh and a shrug, they’ll blame it on chance,
Yet each time they lie, they speak in a trance.
.
Inconsistent most times, their stories twist and turn,
Illusions of progress, yet they never seem to learn.
Self-motivation, a distant and foreign land,
Where dreams go to fade, like footprints in sand.
.
The mirror reflects a face fully filled with doubt,
Wonders are within them, but they shut them all out.
“Why try to improve? The world’s against me, you see,
The blame rests on others, deflection is the key.”
.
Yet there’s a flicker of hope, if they’d only let go,
To break through the barriers, embrace the unknown.
But reluctance to change keeps them stuck in their ways,
While growth potential dims the possibilities in their days.
.
Rationalizations churn like a relentless machine,
Words playing tricks, unspoken and unseen.
They fake it, they twist it, to save face and protect,
But each excuse woven chains, a distrusting effect.
.
What if they chose to step out of the dark,
To face the discomfort, ignite a new spark!
Habitual rationalizers, with stories unreal,
Will they see the light, realizing how others feel.
.
So here’s to the habitual, with their reasons carved in stone,
May they find the courage hidden, and let the truth roam,
For every step they’re stalling, there’s a world beyond that door,
In the dance of self-discovery, could they find what they’d ignore?
.
Oh, the task is quite simple, it begins with a chance,
To take life by the reins and engage in a truthful dance.
.
