Why We Go To The Beach

Why We Go To The Beach: Frank Poland – Lyrics & Music: This poetic morsel was created with three special ladies in mind. They are my wife (Janie Poland), her sister (Vickie Smith) and our dear friend (Martha Steil).

WHY WE GO TO THE BEACH
.

Why do we travel to the ocean shore,
What is it that we are looking for?
Is it the beach, the sand, the sun, or salty sea,
Or something deeper calling you and me?
.

We come with burdens weighing on our mind,
And leave our hurried world so far behind.
The waves roll in, then gently roll away,
And somehow comforts our life each day.
.

No ringing phones, no schedules to obey,
No pressing deadlines stealing time away.
Just sand beneath us, ocean stretching wide,
With endless waves washing with the tide.
.

We walk along the shoreline, feeling free,
With nothing but the waves and endless sea.
The breeze brings salt and sunshine to our face,
And somehow time begins to slow its pace.
.

We go to the beach searching for escape,
To leave behind the schedules that we shape.
We trade our worries for the ocean’s sound,
And find quiet and peace where waves abound.
.

We go to beach trying to forget,
Troubles and things that cause regret.
But somewhere between the shoreline and the foam,
We find part of ourselves we left at home.
.

We go because children love the sand,
With little buckets held in either hand.
They build their castles proudly by the sea,
Then watch the waves erase them happily.
.

Perhaps that’s why we adults love the shore,
Because the child within us lives once more.
Our mind chases memories along the sand,
Holding forgotten moments in our hand.
.

The beach becomes a keeper of the past,
Where treasured memories seem forever cast.
We remember those who walked beside the sea,
And wish for just one more day with them to be.
.

We realize how small our lives can be,
Yet somehow smallness brings tranquility.
Our worries seem less mighty than before,
When measured against the ocean’s shore.
.

Perhaps we come because we need to breathe,
To let our burdens evaporate into the sea.
Sometimes we sit and simply watch the foam,
And say a thankful prayer all alone.
.

For standing where the earth meets endless sea,
Can make us wonder what eternity might be.
We watch the waves disappear beyond our sight,
And wonder what awaits beyond this life.
.

We see the horizon reaching far away,
Knowing we are travelers passing through today.
We go to the beach for simple life anew,
And leave with vision deeper, something true.
.

The sand beneath our feet reminds us here,
That life itself is precious, brief, and dear.
The waves remind us time will never stay,
And every sunset erases from our life, a day.
.

Perhaps we go to leave our cares behind,
And find a little peace within the mind.
Perhaps we go because the ocean’s view
Reminds us of what is beautiful and true.
.

We go to find the child we used to be,
We go to hear the rhythm of the sea.
We go to let our tired spirits rest,
And remember that the simple things are best.
.

We go to watch the heavens stretch above,
And remember how much we are given to love.
The horizon taught us there is more to see,
And sand reminded us of life’s fragility.
.

Janie, Vickie and Martha travel to the sea,
They go to rest, to laugh, to dream, to be,
They go to the beach to get away,
To find themselves in the beauty of the day.
.
“Why must we go home so soon?”
