The Potter’s Clay

The Potter’s Clay – Frank Poland: Lyrics and Music – Origin – While my wife and I were visiting Panera restaurant in Hixson, TN, a gentleman approached our table and placed a single-page flyer in front of us. He politely wished us a good day and walked away. As I read through the one-page pamphlet, I told my wife that I could see and hear a song from the message of that little sheet of paper. Well, here it is!

THE POTTER’S CLAY

Isaiah 64:8 — “We are the clay, and Thou our Potter.”

From dust of the earth, God formed
The vessel known as man;
From humble clay He shaped a life,
According to His plan.

And Adam was the name God gave
To man from earthly ground;
The word Adam speaks of earth,
A life of value and worth.

Yet something greater than the clay
Was breathed into that earth—
An everlasting soul within,
A life that bore His name.

He places us upon the Potter’s wheel;
And shapes what we shall feel.
Some days the Potter’s hands are soft,
Some days they seem severe;
Some days the wheel brings joy to us,
Some days it brings a tear.

For all things work together
For those who love the Lord;
What we see as broken pieces
May become His work restored.

And clay that came from earthly dust
Will one day to dust will be;
But what God placed within that clay
The soul will never cease.

For Adam, in the garden, fell;
His sin brought death within.
Adam’s nature was passed on man to man—
His darkness born of sin.

And so the Potter calls us forth:
“Be born again,” He says.
Leave darkness for the light of life,
And follow My ways instead.

For every soul that enters life
Must face eternity;
And every heart must someday choose
Where their eternity will be.

Upon the cross He bore our sin,
Our guilt, our grief, our shame.
The price that we could never pay
Was paid at Calvary;
The gift is free to everyone—
To you, to them, to me.

Confess the Lord with thy mouth,
Believe within your heart
That Jesus died and rose again—
Letting your new life start.

From infancy to growing years,
Through valleys, hills, and plains,
The Potter shapes the life we live
Through sunshine, joy and pain.

And when this earthly journey ends,
When clay returns to dust,
The vessel shaped throughout a life
Will rest within His trust.

And when the wheel of life has stopped,
And earthly days are through,
The Potter’s final question waits:
Which eternity, Heaven or Hell for you?

The answer lies within your choice—
The path is plainly shown:
Trust Jesus Christ, the risen Lord,
And make His Heaven home.

So let the Potter shape your life,
And let His hands always refine.
For broken clay within His hands
Can become a vessel divine.

The Potter knows the finished work
When we can only see the clay.
He shaped each of us for eternity—
For you, today might be that day!

A Point To Ponder (APTP):
NASA Ames Research Center Scientists have clearly stated that the DNA of clay and the DNA of man are essentially the same, validating God is the Potter who made man from clay!
