Serving Mankind

.

Serving Mankind – Frank Poland: Short Story recalled, as a high school kid, from watching Rod Serling’s Twilight Zone TV program in 1959. I have not forgotten this most intriguing episode. Here is the story recreated for Brad Bodine’s Theater Of The Mind…..Enjoy!!

‘SERVING MANKIND’

.

Another intriguing morsel from Brad Bodine’s Theater Of The Mind.
.
The spaceship landed softly in a clearing near Washington D.C. The news spread like wildfire. The military quickly surrounded it, tanks and soldiers ready. They were tense, unsure of what would happen next.
.

The spaceship door opened. Out stepped a thin figure. Its oversized head and large eyes made it look unlike anything humans had seen. Long arms and legs moved gracefully as it approached a group of five-star generals. Clutching a massive book, it spoke in very broken English.
.

“I come in peace. I have cure for all health issues. Cancer, Alzheimer’s, viruses… all gone,” it said, its voice echoing through the tense air.
.

The best Code Deciphers in the military were given the task to unravel the alien language within the Serving Mankind book as the alien continued to share knowledge that astound scientists and doctors. They listened, scribbling notes, eyes wide with hope. The creature painted a vivid picture of it’s home, a paradise millions of miles away in another galaxy. Lush landscapes, endless joy, no sickness—just peace and prosperity. People were drawn to the idea. The alien extended an invitation. Anyone who wanted to leave Earth could join it on the return trip. Hundreds stepped forward, eager to escape their struggles on earth.
.

As departure day arrived, excitement filled the air. Volunteers lined up, anticipation buzzing. The spaceship hummed softly, ready to take off. The alien stood at the entrance, welcoming them inside. As the spaceship lifted from the ground…… Suddenly, a military jeep sped toward the spacecraft.
.
The Chief Code Decipher jumped out, shouting,
.
“STOP!…….. STOP!……  DON’T GO! …. I BROKE THE CODE!!”
“THE BOOK, ‘SERVING MANKIND’ IT’S A HUMAN COOK BOOK!”
