  DON’S LETTER HOME

Just a line to say I’m living
That I’m not among the dead
Though I’m getting more forgetful
And more mixed up in the head.
.
For sometime I can’t remember
When standing at the foot of the stairs
Was I going up for something
Or did I just come down from there.
.
And before the fridge, many times
My poor mind is filled with doubt
Have I just put food in the fridge
Or am I here to take it out.
.
Sometimes when it’s dark outside
With pajamas on, the thought came in my head
I don’t remember if I was getting in
Of if I was getting out of bed.
.
So if it’s my turn to write to you’all
Please bare with me, don’t get sore
I can’t remember who wrote in the past
Maybe it was me who wrote you last.
.
So remember, I do miss you’all
And I wish you’all were here
And now it’s nearly mail time
So I must say ‘Goodbye family dear’.
.
There I stood closing the mail box
With a mental pause in my head
I opened the box, removed my letter
I opened my letter and read my own words instead.
.
Now, I am not sure who wrote who last!
