My Friend Martha

MARTHA MY FRIEND: Frank Poland – Lyrics & Music – Frank & Janie Poland have been friends of Frank & Martha Steil for many decades. I wrote these words as a tribute to the life of my dearest friend Martha Steil.

Proverbs 17:17: “A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.”This verse emphasizes the loyalty and unconditional love that true friends should have for one another.

Martha My Friend
.
In a garden where happiness and kindness blooms
Resides my friend, Martha, who dispels all glooms,
Her name means ‘lady’, a title she wears,
With grace flowing freely, a spirit that cares.
.
With a grace that reflects her noble name,
She carries the essence of service the same,
Fifty-two years of friendship, unwavering light,
A lady of courage, a beacon in my life.
.
With open arms and a heart yearnful to give,
She tends to her household, where kindness lives,
Meals made with love, a feast for the soul,
Each dish an embrace, making weary hearts whole.
.
Tending to tasks, like a nurturing seam,
She orchestrates dinners, each meal a dream,
With laughter and stories, her kitchen alive,
A haven for family and friends, where all thrive.
.
Loyal support beneath her husband’s dreams,
With quiet strength, she weaves family seams,
The keeper of finances, with wisdom in hand,
In the ledger of life, she helps them all stand.
.
The rock of the family, their steadfast ground,
In trials and triumphs, her strength knows no bound,
A woman of courage, with faith as her guide,
In moments of hardship, she walks by their side.
.
With devotion unfeigned to the God she holds dear,
Her faith shines like stars that are bright and clear,
A personality radiant, transparent like glass,
In her honest reflections, life’s shadows she’ll cast,
.
Recently victorious over trials of the flesh,
Through the storm of chemotherapy, she turned fears to ash,
With her heart on her sleeve, she grapples with pain,
Yet rises each morning to face skies again.
.
For those who seek comfort, her door’s always wide,
In the caring embrace where her spirit abides,
She nurtures the weary, the lost, and the meek,
With a heart overflowing, her kindness unique.
.
Treating all equally, believers or not,
Her kindness and charity weave humanity’s knot,
With a strong, resolute sense of responsibility,
She bends but won’t break under life’s fragility.
.
She manages chaos, with elegance and grace,
Caring for guests, she creates a warm space,
Her table set with warmth, love’s bounty laid bare,
Each heart welcomed gently, each one with care.
.
She perceives the world with a heart that feels deep,
In laughter and sorrow, her emotions don’t sleep,
Though struggles arise, she faces them wide,
With realism’s cloak wrapped snugly around pride.
.
So here’s to dear Martha, my friend, my great guide,
In this journey called life, forever beside,
May we applaud with cheer to her spirit so grand,
A woman of courage—we all understand.
.
Embodying love, service, faith, and pure grace,
In the book of our lives, she has etched her place,
Dear Martha, oh lady, your legacy sings,
In every good deed, every prayer that takes wing.
