1962 Classmates – 65th Year Reunion – Frank Poland: Lyrics and Music

1962 Classmates – 65th Year Reunion
Scottsboro High School Classmates, a spirit proud and true
Little did we realize how fast years would go from 1962
We dreamed about tomorrow and the life that lay ahead
Not knowing the many paths our classmates would be led
.
Some friendships have survived the years despite miles apart
For friendships built in younger years remain within our heart
Though life may send us separate ways as many years go by
A true and lasting friendship never really says goodbye
.
We once were young and restless with our whole lives yet to live
With dreams of what tomorrow and our future might yet give
And now we meet together with our eighty plus year eyes
And marvel at the journey that has carried us through time
.
We remember teachers classrooms games and youthful schemes
The friendships little romances and our adolescent dreams
We remember who we thought we’d be when graduation came
And smile at how the years have changed our lives, it’s not the same
.
Some found success and fortune some found contentment’s way
But every life became a story written through the years, day by day
Some learned that life’s a mixture of the bitter and the sweet
Every winding road traveled helped make our life complete
.
But after graduation some classmates disappeared
Life carried them out of sight, unknown far or near
And some who weren’t the popular ones who seldom drew a crowd
Went quietly into the world and made their families very proud
.
They built successful careers and lives that others admire
Proving that high school does not measure one’s future desire
Some sweethearts found each other beneath the auditorium lights
And walked together through the years with their future in sight.
Some classmates become grandparents with grandchildren at their side
And some became great-grandparents with generations as their pride
.
Some come to every reunion eager once again to share
And some have never made it back through memories we truly care
Here’s to those who couldn’t come though we’d love to have them near
And those whose health prevents them from returning year after year
They may not sit beside us but they’re with us just the same
For distance age and circumstance cannot erase their name
.
The precious classmates who will never join us here
More than forty classmates have departed through the years
Their empty chairs will speak to us more loudly than a crowd
For those who shared our younger days we still remember proud
We’ll speak their names with tenderness and memories will arise
We’ll see their younger faces through our older wiser eyes
.
Let’s cherish those beside us and remember those who’ve gone
For every friend we lost along the way still helps us carry on
Their laughter lives in memories their faces in our mind
Somewhere in the years we shared, their footprints we still find
.
So here’s to Scottsboro High School, 1962 classmates true
To every friend and classmate who shared these years with you
The school days may be over, but the memories never end
Once a 62 Wildcat Classmate, always, we will be friends.
